Teeny Tiny Christmas Book
This 1 1/2 inch square book that we picked up at a German Christmas market is charming. When the book is open all the way, magnets in the front and back covers connect, turning it into a Christmas ornament. Each section has 3 layers, giving the 4 different scenes of Saint Nicholas depth and interest. I happen to be quite a fan of intriguing books that fall under the category of movable books or engineered paper. I am impressed with the creativity and skill required to them. I particularly like pop-up books – not only does each elements have to pop up, but pop down correctly as well. One year, in addition to the usual gifts for each of us, Layden’s mother sent a mystery gift for which we all had to draw a number. A little sealed envelope attached to the gift tag had the winning number. The mystery gift turned out to be a very nice pop-up book and I was the lucky winner! Apparently I got very excited and insisted on reading it aloud right then and there. This event continues to be referred to as The Year Mom Won Christmas.
